Electric Shadows: Days of Heaven

Director
Terrence Malick
Certificate
PG
Running Time
94 mins

Formerly unprolific Terrence Malick followed up Badlands with this visually stunning romantic drama set in 1916. Richard Gere flees grim Chicago for the Texas panhandle with his girlfriend Brooke Adams and narrating little sister Linda Manz.  A tragic love triangle then develops with their wealthy farmer employer Sam Shepard. Malick ladles on the religious allegory, while Oscar-winning cinematographer Nestor Almendros conjures up gorgeous images that were to inspire commercials directors for decades.

It’s back on screen in Bristol Cathedral’s monthly Electric Shadows series of films deemed to have a “theological aspect”. The screening is introduced by Dr. Charlotte Crofts of UWE, who’s also founder of the Cary Grant Comes Home for the Weekend festival.
