Out of Blue + director Q&A

Director
Carol Morley
Certificate

Running Time
109 mins

Dreams of a Life and The Falling director Carol Morley‘s US debut does the Lynchian weirdness thing, with all that this entails. It’s an adaptation of Martin Amis‘s novel Night Train, with Patricia Clarkson as a New Orleans detective investigating a murder.

Many reviewers pronounced themselves baffled by the film’s curious blend of neo-noir and metaphysical rumination and weren’t sure whether they were intended to laugh, which may give you some idea of whether or not this is your cup of strangeness. The Hollywood Reporter considered it both ‘thrilling’ and ‘utterly exasperating’, while the Guardian‘s reviewer noted that it “sometimes seems papier-mâchéd together with layers of mannerism and pastiche, floating along like a two-hour dream sequence.”

Carol Morley will be present for a Q&A after the Watershed’s preview screening.
