As if we haven’t had enough of the “a star is born” dramas after, erm, A Star Is Born and Wild Rose, here’s another one. Elle Fanning is cast as Violet, a shy girl who struggles against the odds to achieve fame by performing generic pop on the eponymous TV talent show.

Rebecca Hall gets to enjoy herself as the dastardly Simon Cowell figure in Max Minghella‘s debut feature as writer/director, which received mixed reviews in the US.
