Peter Yates, the Brit director of the classic Bullitt, directs Robert Mitchum in this downbeat crime drama adapted from the novel by George V. Higgins.

Mitchum plays the eponymous low-level Boston mobster who turns stoolie to avoid a long jail sentence and then finds himself pursued relentlessly by his former criminal associates. Suitably grimy and gritty, this is one of most overlooked crime flicks of the 1970s.
