Metropolitan Opera Live: La Fille du Régiment

Certificate
12A
Running Time
183 mins

Having been found on the battlefield as a nipper, Marie is raised by an entire army regiment (this being in those olden days when no one would bat an eyelid at a bunch of blokes adopting a little girl). As a pulchritudinous young lady, she’s naturally expected to marry a soldier from the regiment, but falls for a local fella instead. Anguished warbling ensues.

Kathleen Turner makes her Met debut in a speaking role as the Duchess of Krakenthorp in Laurent Pelly‘s production of Donizetti’s frothy opéra comique. Tenor Javier Camarena and soprano Pretty Yende team up for the bel canto vocal fireworks—including the show-stopping tenor aria Ah! Mes amis … Pour mon âme, with its nine high Cs.
