Oscar Wilde Season Encore: A Woman of No Importance

Director
Dominic Dromgoole
Certificate
12A
Running Time
150 mins

An earnest young American woman, a louche English lord and an innocent young chap join a house party of fin de siècle fools and grotesques. Nearby lives a woman who cradles a long-buried secret. Yep, it’s Oscar Wilde‘s satire on the Victorian upper classes, which was first performed back in 1893.

This first production by Classic Spring – the new theatre company from Dominic Dromgoole, former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe – it’s broadcast live from London’s Vaudeville Theatre. Dromgoole himself directs a cast that includes Olivier Award-winner Eve Best as Mrs. Arbuthnot and BAFTA-nominated Anne Reid as Lady Hunstanton, alongside Eleanor Bron and William Gaunt. This is an encore screening of the production that launched the company’s year-long celebration of all things Wilde.
