Director

Running Time
110 mins

The original 1925 monster movie, with effects by the great Willis O’Brien, which pre-dated King Kong. This one’s been restored and reissued umpteen times, the last version to be shown locally being film historian David Shepherd’s 2004 digital restoration, which still had plenty of missing scenes. This new one by France’s Lobster Films is a 2K restoration drawn from a variety of sources, with a further eight minutes of previously unseen footage now incorporated. There’s also a new score by renowned silent film composer Robert Israel.

This South West Silents screening will be introduced by Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, who’s a long-term admirer of the film in general and O’Brien in particular.
