Bristol Film Festival: Peeping Tom

Director
Michael Powell
Certificate
15
Running Time
99 mins

It’s hard to believe now, but this was the film that effectively polished off Michael Powell’s career, such was the controversy it aroused back in 1959. The Freudian tale of a photographer driven to murder beautiful women while photographing the fear on their faces, Peeping Tom is positively tame by today’s standards. And now, having been championed by Martin Scorsese, it’s appreciated as a cinema classic by everyone except Halliwell’s Film Guide.

Bristol Film Festival’s screening takes place in Redcliffe Caves as part of its Underground Cinema programme. Go here for tickets.
