In his follow up to S&M romance The Duke of Burgundy, Brit director Peter Strickland returns to the distinctive giallo territory of his earlier Berberian Sound Studio with this unexpectedly comedic yet typically lavish twist on a well-worn horror trope, which also functions as a devilish satire on consumerism.

Set in the 1980s, it’s the tale of a cursed, blood-hungry red frock that has the ability to sneak about under its own steam, wreaking all kinds of havoc. This covetable item of killer couture is initially purchased by lonely, vulnerable divorcee Sheila (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) in a sinister high-end department store’s January sale, whereupon unpleastantness ensues. It’s pleasingly bizarre and nightmarish throughout, with Strickland striking the perfect comic tone by playing the whole thing completely straight. He’ll be present for a Q&A after this preview screening.
