South Korean director Bong Joon-ho‘s universally acclaimed follow-up to the likes of The Host and Snowpiercer arrives laden down with awards, including the Palme d’Or at Cannes. It also topped many critics’ 2019 films of the year lists.
Essentially a tightly plotted Hitchcockian home invasion flick with lashings of stinging social satire, it’s the story of an impecunious Seoul family who infiltrate a super-rich one. The Parks are absolutely loaded, being the epitome of aspirational wealth. The Kims don’t have a pot to piss in, but are blessed with plenty of cunning and set about making themselves indispensable to the Parks. As Variety‘s critic observed: “Bong is back and on brilliant form, but he is unmistakably, roaringly furious, and it registers because the target is so deserving, so enormous, so 2019: Parasite is a tick fat with the bitter blood of class rage.”
This preview screening is followed by a satellite Q&A with the director.
