Drink the bar dry at the Prince of Wales

Date: Saturday, Mar 31 2018
Time: 8:00pm
Venue: The Prince of Wales

Before its new owners the Bermondsey Pub Company take over, current Prince of Wales landlord Anna Gorman and her team at the Gloucester Road pub invite everybody to drink their bar dry.

All draught beer, medium-size wine, spirit and mixer, and shots will cost £3 from 8pm on Saturday, March 31.

“When it’s gone it’s gone but the memories will stay forever,” the pub wrote in a Facebook post.

They added: “Anna Gorman and the team at the Prince of Wales are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support received from the local community. We are sorry the outcome was not any different. New owners will be taking over in due course.”

The Prince of Wales is a much-loved Gloucester Road pub

Towards the end of 2017, Enterprise Inns (now known as Ei Group) issued Anna with notice that it wanted to end the business tenancy with her and put its own manager in place to run the pub.

With the help of a crowdfunding campaign, Anna mounted a historic legal battle – ultimately unsuccessfully – against the corporate giants that will soon take back control of the pub that she has run for the last 15 years.

In a statement, Ei Group commercial director Paul Harbottle said: “Bermondsey Pub Company is delighted to be taking over the Prince of Wales and will ensure that the pub continues to meet the needs of the local community.

“Significant investment in the infrastructure including the toilets and kitchen will underpin our commitment to giving Bristol a refreshed and rejuvenated pub that remains a valuable part of the local community.

“We also look forward to welcoming the current pub staff into our managed business, and reassuring the local suppliers that we will be working hard alongside them to develop strong business relations.”

The Bermondsey Pub Company currently own only one pub in Bristol, the Cotham Arms on St Michael’s Hill.
