Japanese Breakfast
Solo moniker for musician Michelle Zauner, Japanese Breakfast began as a month-long challenge to script a song a day away from her rock band, Little Big League. Debut album, Psychopomp, was originally intended to be the only Japanese Breakfast record as it dealt with the trauma of her mother’s death but its critical acclaim led Zauner to change her mind. Second album, Soft Sounds from Another Planet stepped into themes like grief, dead pop stars, and outer space and succeeded in taking the project out of the bedroom and into the world.
