The Life

Date: Tuesday, Feb 5 2019 - Saturday, Feb 9 2019
Venue: Olympus Theatre

Fresh from its off-West End revival, The Life bursts into Bristol this February with the UK’s non-professional premiere.

Award-winning Bristol theatre company The Worx Productions returns with a company of local performers to bring to life the seedy reality of Times Square in 1979. This gritty, gutsy musical tells the story of Queen and Fleetwood – lovers who desperately work the streets in a bid to find their dream life.

But when they cross the dangerous and unpredictable pimp Memphis, it’s all they can do to try to get out alive.

Cy Coleman’s Tony-nominated score is pumped full of 70s funk and glamour, with crowd-pleasing show-stoppers including Piece of the Action, Oldest Profession and My Friend. The audience will encounter a whole cast of pimps and hookers, whose streetwise sense of humour is tested by the daily struggle of surviving in such a violent and dangerous place.

Performer Michael Griffiths says: “The show is a real challenge, moving quickly between up-tempo musical numbers and real drama. For anyone looking for a bit of escapism , The Life will whisk you away for a few hours and leave you tapping your toes at the end of it!”

Feb 5-9, Olympus Theatre, Filton, BS34 8LP, 7.30pm, £14.
