The Toast Room opens on East Street

By Nat Brereton  Tuesday Jul 18, 2017

While travelling through Europe together, Kate Smith and John Cassettari drew inspiration from the small, community cafes they found and decided to take the plunge and open their own establishment once they had returned to Bristol.

The result is The Toast Room on East Street in Bedminster, whose current menu is made up of various light bites on toast including eggs, chorizo, avocado and homemade beans.

Items, such as quiches and salad plates, lunch and takeaway options are available from the deli counter; and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are in abundance, as well as a separate menu for children.

There are four toast options to choose from: Bristol bloomer, farmhouse granary, sunflower and linseed and Victoria Park sourdough – all of which are supplied by The Park Bakery on St John’s Lane.

Coffee is provided courtesy of Extract Coffee Roasters and Pukka Tea supplies the brews.

With its bright teal exterior, The Toast Room is most certainly eye-catching.

Inside, it’s a modest and minimalist space. Simple, different pieces of furniture clash together nicely and stand out against the wooden floor, whilst cushions are scattered on various seats and potted plants are lined up along a high shelf that runs from wall to wall.

Both bright and airy, the cafe feels spacious with floods of natural light streaming in through the large windows.
